Jurong West Primary School's badminton had come a long way. This year, they displayed a mindset of excellence and perseverance, which helped them advance into the second round of the west zone badminton tournament for the first time. Though that was the furthest the pupils have journeyed, we believe that they will be able to soar to greater heights for the next competition in 2018.
Badminton has always been a popular CCA amongst the pupils. Currently, the pupils in the school team train twice a week and the recreation team once a week.
For school team, pupils are given the opportunity to have friendly matches between schools organised by teachers and also to represent the school to take part in Zonal or National Competitions. With an experienced and dedicated coach to train them, the pupils would go through a challenging yet engaging training program to be selected into the school team. Only 10 players will have the honour to represent the school.
For pupils who only want to pursue playing badminton leisurely, they can choose to enroll in the recreation team. They will be learn the basic movements in badminton such as serving, lobbing, forehand and backhand lifting. They also will be given opportunities to have sparing sessions with their teammates.
We aim to inspire and help every willing student of the sport attain higher levels of proficiency through understanding and detailed guidance by the teachers and coach. Through this learning journey, values such as team spirit, sportsmanship and discipline would be explicitly taught to facilitate a holistic learning experience in Jurong West.
